About Mill Bank Farm

Richard with geoffrey

Mill Bank Farm is a 110 acre farm lying in the rolling Sussex countryside, near the town of Battle. We have a herd of beef cattle and many wildlife habitats.

Sussex Cattle and other farm animals

The farm keeps approximately 40 head of Sussex beef cattle on the farm. The Sussex is a native breed well suited to the area and the herd grazes the land from spring until late autumn.

Please find out more about our organic beef boxes.

The farm also rears some weaner pigs during the summer, plus we also have a small flock of chickens, horses and a local farmer grazes his sheep on the land at certain times of the year.

Wildlife habitats

Mill Bank Farm

The farm slopes down to the Hooe Levels SSSI marshlands along the edge of the river Waller's Haven. 'Scrapes' on the marsh have been created to provide habitats for wading birds, such as lapwing and snipe.

Many varieties of ducks and Canada geese can also be seen. Hedgerow restoration and wildflower meadows are also being created, all under Natural England's HLS conservation grant scheme. Brown hare are also found on the farm.
